Institut de Recherche en Informatique et Systèmes Aléatoires (IRISA)
Institute for Research in IT and Random Systems, an Institute of the University of Rennes, France. Professor Randell was a member of the Scientific Committee.
Professor Randell was a Fellow of the British Computer Society (BCS) and a member of its Safety Critical Systems Task Force. He was also a member of the Editorial Board of the British Computer Journal, the journal of the BCS, for records of which 1972 - 1991 see BR/3/22/3.
International Federation For Information Processing (IFIP)
International Federation For Information Processing (IFIP) is the multinational organisation for Information Technology. Professor Randell was a founder member of Working Groups 2.3 (Programming Methodology) and 10.4 (Dependability and Fault Tolerance). He also refereed papers for IFIP conferences and helped organise some IFIP events. For additional correspondence relating to IFIP, see BR/3/24, especially BR/3/24/14, 23, 33, 40.
Professor Randell was included in correspondence with the Ministry as a result of his service on the CNRS, LAAS and IRISA (see BR/10 - 12).
The Laboratory for Analysis and Architecture of Systems, an Institute of the University of Toulouse, France. To 1993 Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique Laboratoire d'Automatique et d'Analyse des Systèmes. Professor Randell was a member of the Centre's Scientific Committee.
European Union Information Society Technologies (IST) Research Programme
Information Society Technologies was a European Union programme of research which in 1998 succeeded the ESPRIT programme (see BR/8).
United Kingdom Department Of Trade And Industry (DTI)
Professor Randell contributed to the work of a number of Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) committees and activities.
Conseil Scientifique du Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS)
The French National Centre for Scientific Research is a public organization under the responsibility of the French Ministry of Education and Research. Professor Randell was a member of the CNRS Council. For CNRS Institutes see BR/11 and BR/12.
