The file of loose material has been separated from the volumes and features sketches, notes, cuttings and correspondence. Correspondents include L Agassiz, Robert Bald, Charles Chalmers, John Graham Dalyell, David Douglas, Lord Eglington, D Robertson Macdonald, John Gibson Macvicar, Patrick Neill, and C Wilson.

Letters from Sir Astley Paston Cooper (1768-1841), surgeon
Letter dated 14 May 1841 to James Hoggins of the Literary Society regarding Pettigrew's 'Medical Portrait Gallery'. Date taken from postmark. Letter to an unnamed recipient regarding a case of carcinoma lingua [tongue cancer]. The letter is mounted on card, along with a print of an engraving of Cooper by Sir L Lawrence.

Includes travel documents, examples of Italian popular print, documents relating to lotteries, receipts and botanical notes. Correspondence discusses art, sculpture, religious matters.
