Scope and content
Project file for the exhibition: Mark Wallinger – A Real Work of Art. The file contains correspondence with the artist, horse trainer, and collaborators, publicity material, newspaper articles and proofs, and finance documents.
Project Details:
Mark Wallinger bought a racehorse which ran a single race on 26th September 1994. The project was to challenge the idea of 'readymades,' in art and demonstrate that living objects outside of a gallery setting could also be art. Wallinger also sold objects related to the horse, such as hoofprints and vets bills. A series of 50 statuettes of the horse and jockey were also created and exhibited globally.
