Scope and content
Leonard Evetts' project file relating to the design and execution of windows in St Luke's Church, Scarborough, North Yorkshire. The file represents two projects: The windows in the Lady Chapel, installed 1963, and ten windows in the Chancel which were installed from 1970 and completed in 1974.
The main file contains documents dating 1960-1973. The file contains photographs of the completed designs, detailed designs, sketches, and commission correspondence.
An additional file contains a photograph of the Lady Chapel window (installed 1963) as an example of a window fitted with a glass known as 'curious' which differs greatly in thickness, creating abstract patterns and distorting images from outside for further effect. The file is dated 1999 and is thought to relate to the publication of the posthumous book on the work of Leonard Evetts.
There is also one large design of the Lady Chapel windows, housed separately due to its size.
