European Union ESPRIT Research Programme
ESPRIT was a European Union programme of research managed by the European Commission Directorate General for Industry from 1983 to 1998. Professor Randell was an advisor to the Programme and a collaborator within it. See BR/9 for the Information Society Technologies Research Programme which succeeded ESPRIT.

Health And Safety Commission Advisory Committee On The Safety Of Nuclear Installations (ACSNI)
Professor Randell was a member of the Advisory Committee and of its Study Group on the Safety of Operational Computer Systems.
Science And Engineering Research Council (SERC)
From 1994 Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council. Professor Randell contributed to the work of a number of meetings and panels.

Professor Randell contributed to the work of a number of Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) committees and activities.
Professor of Computing Science at Newcastle University
Professor Randell was appointed to the post in 1969. Following retirement he became Emeritus Professor in October 2001, and Senior Research Investigator in the University's Department of Computing Science.

International Federation For Information Processing (IFIP)
International Federation For Information Processing (IFIP) is the multinational organisation for Information Technology. Professor Randell was a founder member of Working Groups 2.3 (Programming Methodology) and 10.4 (Dependability and Fault Tolerance).
