Letters from Sir Everard Home (1756-1832), surgeon

Four letters from Home. Letter written at Lancing, Shoreham on 18 Jan 1849. Written in the third person Home accepts an invitation to attend the delivery of the Hunterian Oration in the Royal College of Surgeons by Mr Hawkins. Letter written at Sackville Street, undated, to Mr Clift. Home requests use of the blunderbuss for Mr Marsh. Letter has annotations detailing the cost of the blunderbuss. Letter written at Sackville Street dated 2 Feb 1813 to Mr Clift. Home gives medical advice to Clift and suggests he drinks ale. Letter written at Sackville Street dated 24 Jan 1820 to Mr William Clift. Covering letter accompanying a report for reformatting. The letters are accompanied by a paper folder with manuscript biographical notes on Home. The recipient of three of the letters, William Clift, is likely to be William Clift (1775-1849), museum curator and scientific illustrator.

Makes recommendations as to her diet and lifestyle, including avoiding 'visiting the poor'. Undated letter written at 63 Brook Street, Grosvener Square to Dr. Webb explaining he is unable to meet Mr Walker owing to attending a consultation. The letter has been mounted on paper with a cutting of an engraving of Jenner signed R. Taylor. Letter dated 12 Jan 1881 written at 8 Harley Street to A. Vogue Esq. Jenner expresses regret at not having responded to prior correspondence. Includes original envelope. Letter dated 27 Jul 1885 written at 63 Brooke Street, Grosvener Square to Ernest Hart. Letter is marked private. Jenner suggests that the British Medical Association should raise regarding financial support for Dr David Bradley who had been convicted for felonious assault at Leicester Assizes in 1884. He was released in 1885 following petitions signed by members of the Association. Donations were requested in the British Medical Journal with reference to Jenner's support on 1 Aug 1885.
