Poetry books from local publishers which were collected by Arts Council England based in Newcastle.

Bloodaxe Books authors and books have won virtually every major literary award given to poetry, including the T.S. Elliot Prize, Pulitzer Prize and Nobel Prize. Bloodaxe is also known for its work with translated collections and American poetry, and have published responsively to cultural change in Britain, publishing some of the finest writers in the British-Caribbean and South-Asian diaspora. Another significant achievement is that Bloodaxe publish more female writers than any other British poetry publisher, at a 50:50 male:female ratio. This collection consists of the books published by Bloodaxe Books including poetry and prose.

The writer’s personal library includes a large section of Anglo-American modern classics but also offers a glimpse into the interests that fed his fictional output such as religion, philosophy, the figurative arts, mining and local history. Russian literary classics in rare Soviet era translations feature prominently too and the inscriptions both to Sid and his wife Rene attest to the richness of their social network amongst younger authors. 

The collection includes monographs and journal issues featuring Brendan Cleary’s poetry, as well as works by other poets whose work was published in The Echo Room - the poetry magazine which he edited - and by the associated venture Echo Room Press.

Books published by Flambard Press, independent publisher based in Hexham which ran from 1990 - 2014. Includes poetry, novels, short stories and non-fiction and is strong in work by local authors.

Books published by independent publisher IRON Press based in Cullercoats. Includes copies of IRON magazine which ran from 1973 and 1997 publishing art work, reviews, short stories and poetry. The book collection comprises of poetry, fiction and drama and is particularly strong in work from local authors.

A collection of monographs and journal issues (including rare student publications) featuring the poet’s work, with examples of “reading” copies for public performances, annotations evidencing edits and textual variations and consistent ownerships inscriptions.

The Walmsley (Anne) Collection is named for the person that formerly owned the books. It contains poetry and prose by Caribbean and black British writers, including Kamau Brathwaite, Derek Walcott (the Nobel Prize for Literature winner), Olive Senior and Samuel Selvon. Some of the books contain additional material such as correspondence and some of the books are inscribed to Anne by the authors.
