Vacuum type incandescent lamp, globular shape, hand blown, single hairpin carbon filament, with platinum lead-wires attaching to base. Also known as a sunlight lamp, this large type of bulb was commonly used in factories and similar large spaces. Constricted at neck to allow wire to be wrapped around lamp for suspension. Donated by the Swan family. The original label states the production date for this type of bulb at the Swan Electric Lamp Company was 1881-1883. It and also states that it was the type used at Cragside.
