Dissington

In 2011 Farrells produced a series of initial strategies and a masterplan for a residential development on the Dissington Estate and adjoining Birney Hall just outside of Ponteland. Its principles were based on that of the 'eco town', or 'green village,' principles of the Bicester masterplan.

Newcastle Gateshead

Between 2009-2011, the Newcastle Gateshead City Development Company was founded as a regeneration and investment organisation to encourage investment specific Newcastle and Gateshead city areas. It received a funding of £500,000 a year from each of its three partners (Newcastle City Council, Gateshead Council, and the One North East regional development agency).

In July 2010 announced that Farrells were the preferred tenderer for the ‘Developing Newcastle Gateshead’ contract to oversee the development of the Newcastle-Gateshead 1Plan – an economic and spatial strategy for Newcastle-Gateshead. Among the capital projects proposed by the plan were: (1) The creation of the North-east’s first International Conference and Exhibition Centre as part of the regeneration of Gateshead Quays, with a mix of uses including homes, offices, leisure and retail; (2) The next phase of development in the Ouseburn cultural quarter, including between 60 and 80 new homes in partnership with the Homes and Communities Agency using £4 million Public Land Initiative funding; (3) The acceleration of the development of Science Central (creation of 40,000 square metres of office and teaching space pre-let by Newcastle University Business School, along with a £30 million student village), a project already underway by Downing Developments.

In September 2011, following cuts to council budgets, and the abolishment by central government of One North East, Newcastle and Gateshead councils announced this scheme would be replaced by a "business development commission" which would work with the marketing agency Newcastle-Gateshead.

Auckland

In 2008-2009, Farrells developed a masterplan for Auckland, called the Great Northern Development, for AMP Developments. This included the redevelopment of Newmarket, a suburb to the south east of Auckland CBD. A main area within Newmarket was the recently sold Lion Nathan Brewey site off the Kyber Pass Road. The aim of this 5.2 hectare area was to provide a mixed use building with high quality residential units whilst retaining the retail and business reputation of the neightbourhood. The original proposals sought to reinforce the positive aspects of Newmarket's current form, whilst improving pedestrian permeability through the site along key axial lines. The plan also sought to connect Newmarket to other surrounding areas (Mount Eden and Hobson Bay) by visual sights lines and physical accessiblity. There was also an emphasis placed on developing 4 public squares.

It is unclear if this project was executed.

Bloomsbury Street Development

Material for this project is also known by the title ‘Bloomsbury Urban Realm Analysis’. The known project dates cover 2005-2006. In terms of chronology, it coincides with UCL’s development of the hospital site, but is a separate project. Farrells were employed to deliver a ‘strategic vision’ aimed to assist in identifying future masterplan proposals for the area, and provide a context for various initiatives pursued by interested parties.

The brief was to examine options for improvements to the urban realm in the area bounded by Euston Road, Tottenham Court Road, New Oxford Street / Bloomsbury Way and Southampton Row / Woburn Place. The scope of the brief also included the re-assessment of patterns of traffic, pedestrian and public transport movement. The resulting vision was required to take into account work already commissioned on traffic flows around the Euston underpass, specifically the re-introduction of two-way working along part of Tottenham Court Road and Gower Street, the introduction of a bus contra-flow along sections of Tottenham Court Road and the re-design of the main Euston Road junctions. The resulting scoping study produced the ‘Strategic Urban Realm Plan.’

Roath Basin, Cardiff Bay

This masterplan was prepared by Terry Farrell in 2004 on behalf of the Welsh Development Agency. Although the WDA was abolished in 2006, the Welsh Assembly Government subsequently based their 2008 regeneration plans for the basin, then the last major derelict site of the inner harbour, partially on the original Farrell masterplan.

It is a fully integrated multi-modal transportation hub that serves as a “Gateway” to the capital and a vital link in China’s new highspeed intercity network. An oval-shaped station was designed by the British architecture firm of TFP Farrells in collaboration with the Tianjin Design Institute The design strategy also incorporates separate zones catering to different types of vehicular traffic including area for underground basement car-parking spaces, taxi drop-off bays, taxi pick-up bays with queuing spaces and bus spaces making the station as a comprehensive transport hub.
