Photograph, and original copy, of 1886 notice to the 'Monarch Permanent Benefit Building Society' signed by RBD

Coloured photograph of an original document, dated 13th October 1886: Notice to the Monarch Permanent Benefit Building Society of the conveyance of land and hereditaments at Heworth from Robert and Margaret Ann Fittes to Robert Dick, subject to a mortgage to the Monarch Permanent Benefit Building Society. There is also a photocopy of this document. This copy of the original was created 1991.

This collection comprises copied, and some original, photographs, papers and documents relating to the architect Robert Burns Dick (1868-1954) who had substantial influence in the north-east of England, particularly in the city of Newcastle upon Tyne.

The collection includes photographs of personal documents relating to land conveyance and partnerships with Cackett and Mackellar; architectural drawings and photographs of 'Millmount' and 'the Wedge', both designed by Burns Dick; and newspaper articles and other cuttings relating to him and his work. There is also material relating to an exhibition on Burns Dick held by the northern region of the Royal Institute of British Architects in 1984.

Copy of two original black and white photographs. One is a head and shoulders portrait of Robert Burns Dick in ‘dress uniform’. The other is a head and shoulders portrait of Robert Burns Dick’s wife, Margaret Mary Ann (Morason). The photograph of Robert Burns Dick appears to have been taken c.1910. These copies of the originals were created 1991.
