This archive includes content accumulated and created by both Charles and Mary, and other family members. It reflects the family's personal activities from Charles' childhood in the 1870s to Mary's death in 1966, but also includes some content from Charles' professional life. It can support research into a broad variety of areas, including political history (particularly the Liberal and Labour parties, socialism and international relations), World War I (particularly dissent and the peace movement), childhood and education (from both a personal and political perspective), domesticity, class and landed estates.
This extensive personal archive is mostly comprised of correspondence. This includes: Correspondence to Charles in his role as MP Correspondence to and from Charles relating to the operation of the Union of Democratic Control Correspondence to and from Charles relating to his positions in government Correspondence relating to the management of the Wallington estate and the donation to the National Trust Correspondence between members of the Trevelyan and Bell families, much of which is domestic in tone Correspondence to and from Charles and Mary's children from their early childhood to adulthood Correspondence from visits abroad including North America, Australia, New Zealand, the Middle East, Russia and Germany The correspondents include family members such as Charles' brothers George Macaulay Trevelyan and Robert Calverley Trevelyan, Mary's sister and brother in law Elsa Richmond and Admiral Sir Herbert William Richmond. Other correspondents include Sir Winston Churchill, J Ramsay MacDonald, E D Morel, Arthur Ponsonby, Walter Runciman, Herbert Samuel, George Bernard Shaw and Jennie Lee.

(C A H Richardson, 1818) 3 - Programme for a violin recital by Edvard Soermus at Merthyr Tydfil, 23rd April 1918) 4 - Section from an unidentified publication with articles on the Unemployment Act 1934 and Soviet Russia (c.1934) [possibly a trade union publication for the ship-building trade]. 5 - Blackwoods Magazine number 1549 (1944) [includes an article entitled 'Sinking the Scharnhorst' by B B Ramsden, with an insert in Mary's hand that it refers to a military engagement in which Philip Cheswright was involved]

Includes personal notebooks, ephemera, documents relating to family members and to the transfer of Wallington Hall to the National Trust.

Includes a pencil illustration [possibly of Florence Bell as a young woman], drawings made by either Hugh Lowthian Bell [Hugo] or Mary circa 1888, the cover for a Collins Midget Diary annotated 'from GWT', two of Mary's dance cards, a 'learn to read' print with Mary's name, a list of Bell family members of Mary's generation listing their spouses and children and a watercolour illustrated timetable for 'Pauline, George Lowthian and Katharine [Kitty] Trevelyan's lessons with Miss Clarke' [Elsie Clarke].

Includes childhood ephemera, Mary's observations and writings and documents and cuttings relating to family members.

Black, lockable writing case manufactured by Parkins and Cotto. Paper tag affixed to the handle is annotated in Charles' hand: 'Letters from family and others kept by Caroline Lady Trevelyan'.

Includes a manuscript translation by Sir Richard Jebb of fragments of Simonides , with annotations from George Otto Trevelyan stating that it was written at Cambridge University c.1860, extracts from the notebooks of Leonardo da Vinci in Charles Philips Trevelyan's hand, latin verses in George Otto's hand and an unattributed poem on a postcard sent to Charles.

Includes letters from Thomas Thornton regarding game on the Wallington estate, a receipt for a diamond ring from George Pickett, a letter relating to Lord and Lady Carlisle's marriage settlement trust (for which George was trustee), an agreement regarding the publication of The Marginal Notes of Lord Macaulay and an invitation to an exhibition by the Royal Academy of Arts.

This series comprises correspondence sent to other members of the Trevelyan and Philips families but which was held alongside Charles and family's papers. The sub-series are as follows:
