National Coal Board

Consists of material relating to work done for the National Coal Board by Sid Chaplin. Sid began as a feature writer on the National Coal Board's publication Coal, then in 1957 he was offered a new post as Public Relations Officer. He retired in early 1972.

Involvement with the Arts

Consists of material relating to Sid's involvement with the Arts including the Spennymoor Settlement, the People's Theatre, The Literary and Philosophical Society, holding the position of Writer in Residence at various libraries, and his dealings with other Northern Arts groups.

Consists of material relating to the writing and publication of various short stories written by Sid Chaplin. Many of Sid's short stories were first published in newspapers, then published again in short story collections. Some were also made into productions or read on radio. To retain this context and the creative process, where possible the short stories have been kept in their original bundles, resulting in numerous short stories and newspaper cuttings being contained within one file.
