Leonard Evetts' project files relating to a number of projects at Gloucester Cathedral. Evetts’ work for Gloucester Cathedral spanned from 1965-1984 and comprised the following projects: The design of an alter frontal (advent and falls) completed 1965-1966; the design of an alter frontal (trinity) completed 1967-1968; the design of copes completed 1970-1971; the design a funeral pall as a memorial for William Iveson Croome approx 1970-1971; the design of three embroidered panels for the Lady Chapel, designed by Evetts, embroidered by Mrs M Pallister and completed in 1977 (these replaced stone sculptures, destroyed during the reformation, which were situated in niches behind the alter); and the design of an alter cloth for the Lady Chapel 1983-1984 (not realised).
The three files all contain sketches, detailed designs, photographs and commission correspondence, and are split as follows: File 1 has a date range of 1967-1971 and relates mainly to the design of the copes and the memorial pall for William Iveson Croome; File 2 has a date range of 1976-1979 and relates largely to the embroidered panels for the Lady Chapel; File 3 has a date range of 1983-1985 and relates to the Lady Chapel reredos and alter frontal project. In addition there are three large rolled design drawings of the three embroidered panels for the Lady Chapel niches, housed separately due to their size.
Note there is also a Gloucester Cathedral guidebook in the research files for the book 'Master Designer' - see LE/05/05.
