Consists of 12 letters between Sir Liam and Sir George Godber, 11th Chief Medical Officer for England (1960 - 1973), regarding insights into the role and organising a lunch together.
Includes a photocopy of a photograph of Sir Liam and Sir George at this lunch.
Also includes a hand-written personal account by Sir George on his time in the position of Deputy Chief Medical Officer (under Sir John Charles from 1950 - 1960) and CMO, and political tensions between the tobacco industry and the Ministry of Health following the Royal College of Physicians Committee 1962 report Smoking and Health; the first major move against smoking, which Sir George was instrumental in setting up.
