Letter dated 15 Sep 1839 from Clift. Written at the Royal College of Surgeons, Lincoln's Inn Fields, to R McCormick Esq. Relates to the procurement and preparation of spirits for preserving animals and the acquisition of dissecting instruments. The recipient, Robert McCormick (1800-1890) was naturalist on H.M.S. Erebus on a voyage of discovery to the Antarctic under the command of Captain James Clark Ross. The ship sailed in September 1939 and returned in 1843.
