The New Poetry

The first anthology of the new British and Irish poets of the 80s and 90s, and a controversial literary landmark: already a bestseller as well as a GCSE set text. It captures the excitement, energy, diversity and ambition of a new generation of writers. Edited by Michael Hulse, David Kennedy and David Morley

The New Dynasty; - or - the little Corsican Gardiner planting a Royal Pippin Tree

Print by James Gillray, printed for publisher Henry G. Bohn and subsequently hand-coloured.

Satirises the dynastic ambitions of Napoleon on the Continent, planting a Pippin Tree representing the genealogy of Lord Moira. The "Royal Oak" of British constitutionalism is hacked at by supposed domestic sympathisers- Lord Howick, Lord Grenville, and the Marquis of Buckingham.

Originally published 1807.
