From 1994 Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council. Professor Randell contributed to the work of a number of meetings and panels.

Professor Randell was a member of the Advisory Committee and of its Study Group on the Safety of Operational Computer Systems.

Professor Randell contributed to a number of European Union initiatives. See BR/8 and BR/9 for the ESPRIT and Information Society Technologies Research Programmes.

ESPRIT was a European Union programme of research managed by the European Commission Directorate General for Industry from 1983 to 1998. Professor Randell was an advisor to the Programme and a collaborator within it. See BR/9 for the Information Society Technologies Research Programme which succeeded ESPRIT.

Information Society Technologies was a European Union programme of research which in 1998 succeeded the ESPRIT programme (see BR/8).

The French National Centre for Scientific Research is a public organization under the responsibility of the French Ministry of Education and Research. Professor Randell was a member of the CNRS Council. For CNRS Institutes see BR/11 and BR/12.

The Laboratory for Analysis and Architecture of Systems, an Institute of the University of Toulouse, France. To 1993 Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique Laboratoire d'Automatique et d'Analyse des Systèmes. Professor Randell was a member of the Centre's Scientific Committee.

Institute for Research in IT and Random Systems, an Institute of the University of Rennes, France. Professor Randell was a member of the Scientific Committee.

Professor Randell was included in correspondence with the Ministry as a result of his service on the CNRS, LAAS and IRISA (see BR/10 - 12).

The Microelectronics Applications Institute (MARI) was founded in 1979 as a non profit making research, development, and training organization in Newcastle, jointly owned by Newcastle University, Newcastle Polytechnic and Computer Analysts and Programmers Ltd (for which see BR/22/5/1). Professor Randell was a Director of the Company. The Advanced Microtechnology Applications Ltd (AMA) was a wholly-owned subsidiary of MARI, which acted as its trading and commercial arm.
