Correspondence with Percy Stocks

Correspondence regarding Pybus' interest in Stocks' work on benzpyrene (which was sent to Pybus via Dr James Grant, Medical Officer of Health, Gateshead). Pybus requests Stocks' figures and asks about further research. Stocks' replies with more information about his work and explains he is busy with several jobs. Pybus replies to this with his opinion and also sends a reprint of "Cancer and Atmospheric Pollution".

Correspondence with R.G. Miller (Bedford General Hospital)

Letter regarding garden bonfires, and a letter to the Acting Medical Officer of Health (this letter is attached - contains information of benzpyrene content and the unsuitable ways of disposing garden refuse). Pybus replies with information about the petition set up in Newcastle against bonfires in 1963 which was ignored and goes on to discuss the death rates from lung cancer and other diseases including dental caries.

Correspondence with the Birmingham Junior Chamber Commerce - Richard Amott and Dr Myddleton

Collecting information on Air Pollution and Cancer, intention to print a report and send to America. Pybus sends information for this and also discusses The House of Commons stance on air pollution. The Chamber of commerce has received articles from America regarding clean air and links with cancer, also how Pybus' material is being taken seriously, President Johnson pushing Clean Air legislation in congress - Benzpyrene in air must be reduced. Chamber's view that the government doesn't care and isn't doing anything.
