World Alliance for Patient Safety: Forward Programme 2005

This report, produced by Sir Liam in his role as Chair of the World Health Organization's World Alliance for Patient Safety, newly established in May 2004, sets out a programme to deliver it's functions based on the deliberations of seminars, discussions at the World Health Organization itself and meetings with expert advisors. It comprises six areas of proposed actions to reduce harm caused to patients on a global scale, including a Global Patient Safety Challenge, patient and consumer involvement, developing a patient safety taxonomy and reporting and learning to improve patient safety and reduce the risks from health care.

West Nile Virus: A Contingency Plan to Protect the Public’s Health

This report, in response to the mosquito-borne West Nile virus becoming endemic to the United States in 2002, set out measures aimed at the early identification and control of the virus in the event it should reach England. Also includes a contingency action plan to improve readiness diagnosis, management of the condition and prevention of further infection.

Consists of DVD recording of the morning session of Sir Liam's summit in response to the retention of human organs and tissues without proper consent at Bristol and Alder Hey children's hospital, in which he tried to explain what happened in more detail, through presentation of the evidence base, and to hear the views of families and individuals effected, voluntary sectors and the professional medical communities on ideas and solutions for the future.
