Report on Speech delivered by Sir Liam on Strengthening Public Health at the Scarman Trust Conference

Consists of Scarman Trust Conference Report, a national two day conference on building relationships to improve health. Sir Liam spoke on the history and importance of public health, health inequalities and the need for new ways of working in partnership to achieve the policy aims set out in the White Paper Saving Lives: Our Healthier Nation.

Report on Seminar delivered by Sir Liam entitled A New Professional Accountability in Medicine , from Managing Medical Performance: The Report of a Seminar for Chairs of Health Authorities and NHS Trusts

Consists of key points made during Sir Liam's seminar in which he discusses poor clinical performance and the need for quality improvement. Also includes a question and answer session with Sir Liam and delegates.

The seminar Managing Medical Performance, was organised by the Institute of Health and Community Studies of Bournemouth University. Other speakers included Sir Donald Irvine, President of the General Medical Council, and Sir Alexander Macara, Chairman of the British Medical Association.

Report of the Inquiry Commissioned by the NHS Chief Executive into Matters Raised by the District Auditor Concerning the Former Yorkshire RHA

Report by investigating officer Colin Reeves, NHS Director of Finance, in response to the report of the District Auditor received by the Secretary of State for Health in April 1995, into failures regarding corporate governance, financial losses and misconduct by officers in the former Yorkshire Regional Health Authority.

Report of a Census of Organs and Tissues Retained by Pathology Services in England

This report, in response to public criticism at the unauthorised retention of children's tissue and organs at certain hospitals, consisted of a census of organs, body parts and tissues held by all NHS pathology services reflecting the position at the end of 1999. Sir Liam wrote to the Chief Executives of all NHS hospitals asking questions regarding the number of organs, body parts, still-births or foetuses being held; where the retention took place; the policies and procedures that exist on family consent; and the policies and protocols for their disposal after post-mortem.

And the development and use of agreed clinical guidlines to standardise the treatment of patients.
