Election ephemera and telegrams from political campaigns

Mostly comprises telegrams of congratulations on Charles becoming Liberal Member of Parliament for the Elland constituency in 1899.
Also includes a ticket of admittance to the 1892 Newcastle election, a flyer from Charles' unsuccessful 1896 campaign in North Lambeth and a photograph of the votes being announced in Elland in 1899.

Election and political ephemera

Includes newspaper cuttings (some mounted on loose scrapbook pages) regarding elections in the Elland Division during Charles' term as Member of Parliament, a letter to electors from Charles during the 1906 election, leaflets with pictures of Charles and Mary and lists of Charles' votes while in office.

Draft speeches, articles and notes

Includes a presidential address in Charles' hand relating to government circular 1371, a diary relating to Asquith's 1911 government, writings in an unidentified hand on subjects including the Magna Carta, notes and correspondence on frescoes in the House of Commons.

Documents relating to the Soviet Union (USSR) and Communism

Includes a Foreign Office document entitled Guide to the Soviet Union, the Communist Party and the Communist International , a list of principal Soviet personnel, Home Office notes on Russian propaganda since 1930 (as affecting the United Kingdom) and a Report of the Committee on Alleged Propaganda Activities of the Third International and the Soviet Government co-written by Charles.

Documents relating to the General Strike
