Owen gives his view on the recent description of a huge bird in Papua described by Mr Stone. The original envelope and a copy of the published letter are included. Letter dated 1 Sep 1877 written at the British Museum to Mr Silver. Encloses two tickets for hte zoological gardens [the tickets are present]. Letter dated 17 Nov 1878 written at Sheen Lodge, Richmond Park to Mr Silver. Requests the name and address of the Secretary of the Colonial Institute. Letter dated 7 May 1879 written at the British Museum to Mr Silver. Accompanying letter to an Abstract of a paper on the extinct animals of the colonies of Great Britain, delivered at the Royal Colonial Institute [manuscript abstract is also included]. Letter dated 11 Jun [no year] to Lady Shelly. Regrets he is unable to accept an invitation as he is dining with M. du Chaillu.
