Scope and content
In August 1963 the Minister of Education, Sir Edward Boyle, asked the Central Advisory Council for Education (England) 'to consider primary education in all its aspects and the transition to secondary education.' The Council, under the Chairmanship of Lady Bridget Plowden, presented its report to the Secretary of State for Education and Science in October 1966. It was subsequently published in 1967.
This archive comprises of working files, correspondence, and evidence relating to the work of the Council during its three year term, as well as files relating to the report's immediate implementation period 1966 - 1970. A few items of on-going correspondence were created after this period, but the bulk of this archive was created 1963 - 1970.
